Key White paper proposals - March 2022
- Schools and local authorities to work closely with these bodies to re-engage children who are 'severely absent
- DfE will "revise the Behaviour in Schools guidance and the statutory Suspension and Permanent Exclusion guidance
- Requirements on schools to ensure a minimum school teaching week of 32.5 hours and starting salaries of £30,000 for NQTs;
- Imbedding "A Parent Pledge" that schools will deliver "evidence-based support if your child falls behind in English or maths"
- Promise that a child "will not need not need a SEND diagnosis in order to access academic support".
- All schools and trusts not already aligned with the DFE stated policy of being in a MAT of ten schools or at least 7,500 pupils, to develop a strategic plan to get there.
- Introduction of LA-backed MATs "where too few strong trusts exist",
- As yet unspecified "strengthened role for LA overseeing local admissions arrangements and role co- ordinating all in year admissions"
- New Admissions Code required to implement the power changes set out in this White Paper:
- DE to set up a further set of standards for academy trusts.
